first EXT. A green field in East Berlin. Day. Franz Maria. Alexander.
A happy family going wild in the country.
second EXT. A children's playground. Day. Franz Maria.
Maria is sitting on a swing, Franz stands next to her.
Maria: But I'll only stay one day at my mother's place in West Berlin!
Franz: Yes ... and a whole night ...
They kiss.
3. INT. Dark. A door closes.
Announcer: An East Berlin family in the shadow of the German history!
4. INT. Bedroom. Maria. Maria's mother.
The mother shakes Maria, who is in the bed, eyes closed.
Maria's mother: Maria! Wake up! They are blocking the borders!
Maria sleeps.
Maria's mother: Maria! Wake up! They are blocking the borders!

Maria's mother: Maria!
Maria's upper body folds up, she shouts: "No!"
5. INT. Living room. Maria.
Starting with her stilettos the camera slowly scans Marias whole body.
She puts an ID from West Berlin into her nylons.
Announcer: On August, 13th 1961 a whole nation was torn apart ...
and the Platz family.
Maria: I'll get him over here!
6. INT. Maria's room. Maria.
Maria creates her own altar for Franz. She pins his picture onto a black background, next to a black cross. She caresses the picture.
[Radio:] A newscaster explains that after a grace of ten days people from West Berlin are no longer allowed to go to East Berlin.
[Explanatory words of the filmmaker:]
She'll never love another man.
7. INT. Living room. Maria. Hyenas choir.
Maria reads a letter.
Behind her is the hyenas choir, 3 figures, hardly moving.
Maria (very flat voice): Franz ... shot on the run.
Love sometimes is just like death,
only somehow stronger.
Evil laughter from the hyenas choir.
Announcer: They rebel against their destiny.
8. EXT. A bus stop. A factory with the word "Später" (meaning "Later"). Day. Maria. Elfi.
Maria is waiting for the bus. Elfi passes by.
Elfi (seductively): Lonely? Come with me!
Maria's wistful eyes say that she'd love to.
9. INT. Bedroom. Maria. Elfi. Alexander.
The two women are performing their impression of an "hot" love scene.
Announcer: They struggle fiercely against being the playthings of big powers.
Alexander watches them, imitates them, looks pleased.
10. INT. Bedroom. Maria. Alexander.
Maria sits with Alexander on the rumpled bed, caressing him.
Maria: Alexander, you do need a father and I promise that you will get a father!

11. EXT. A lawn in front of a factory. Day. Maria. Elfi.
Maria and Elfi are closely sitting next to each other.
Maria: Elfi, everything is set up. I've already got the address of the clinic in the Lebanon. It takes so much time! But I know that you will take good care of Alexander. You'll always be with him, you'll always be there for him.
The camera moves back. We see a deserted area, an empty road.
[Sound:] We hear the sounds of a busy street and of a construction site.
12. INT. Dark. A door closes.
Announcer: They want to stay human during inhuman times.
-some time later-
13. INT. A building entrance. Franz. 3 men.
Two thugs mistreat a victim.
Franz: WHO am I?
The tortured: Peter Breitkopf ... urrrrrghh.
Franz (channeling Bogart): Exactly! And don't you dare to forget it ever again!

14. INT. Staircase. Maria.
With joyful anticipation the male Maria flies up the stairs.
Announcer: For nine years Maria Platz got lost in the deadly turmoil of the Middle East and HE returns unbroken.
A door with the name ELFI.
15. INT. A stylish living room. Maria. Alexander ("Sven").
Alexander ("Sven"): Well, for 80 Marks you'll have some really great fun.
Any special requests?
Maria sits in her chair, frozen.
(softly) I am his father.
(more loudly) I am your father.
(loud) I am your mother, Alexander, my son!
Alexander stands up, showing obvious contempt. Ostentatiously he stubs out his cigarette.
Insert: The crushed cigarette.
16. INT. A stylish living room. Maria. Alexander ("Sven"). Elfi. Franz ("Peter").
Elfi enters the room. Franz is with her.
Elfi: Hello Sven, just look who's here again: Peter!
Let's get our very special guest your usual very special best, won't we?
Slowly Maria turns in their direction.
Maria (stunned, shocked): Franz!
Maria (melting): Franz!
Franz (lachend): How can anybody be that stupid!
Alexander: You are my father? That's funny! I've got two fathers!
Franz nearly dies laughing.
Maria screams hysterically.
Maria.
Announcer: Anna Chagall.
Franz.
Announcer: Gotthilf John.
Alexander.
Announcer: Introducing Kuno Glanz.
17. INT. Kitchen. Maria.
We only see Maria's upper body. She's got a big knife to cut off her male genitals. Blood and pain.
Announcer: In a movie by Konrad Schmidt based on the prize-winning book by Peter Handschuh: The Inner Wall.
